Incoming Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has revealed he is studying English in an effort to improve his language skills ahead of his move to Stamford Bridge.
The 46-year-old was confirmed as Guus Hiddink’s permanent successor in April and will be charged with reclaiming the Blues’ place amongst the elite next season.
The task is set to be a difficult one given that Chelsea were the most high- profile victims of an unpredictable Premier League campaign and finished in 10th place.
Conte still has the small matter of guiding Italy through Euro 2016 before he can focus entirely on issues in west London but has already started to address any potential communication problems.
“My English is improving because I’m studying,” he told the BBC.
“Before, I studied a lot, but now I’m focused with the national team because we’re preparing for these Euros in the right way, with intensity.
“I like the verb, to fight,” he added.
Conte’s word choice sheds further light on the managerial style he is expected to implement at Chelsea, with intensity and a close bond between coach and player at its core.
Former Blues manager Carlo Ancelotti recently backed Conte to thrive at Chelsea, but the Azzurri boss has warned his style is very different to that of his countryman.
“Carlo was my coach for two seasons in Juventus and a great brother for me,” Conte insisted.
“But we are two different coaches and we live the match in two different ways.
“I want to play with my players. I want my players to feel me very close. I suffer and I win with them,” he added.
