After a challenging stint at Union Berlin, David Datro Fofana may be in line for another loan, which would give Chelsea more room to finish another loan.
According to Football.London, David Datro Fofana, who was on loan at Union Berlin, has been called up by Chelsea. After joining the Bundesliga in the summer, the 21-year-old made 17 appearances for the team.
The 21-year-old, who joined Chelsea in January 2022, has only scored twice for the team after struggling to make an impact in Germany. The forward’s attitude and training output caused him to fall out of the starting lineup under Nenad Bjelica after he had a falling out with former Berlin manager Uri Fischer.
But there were hints that Fofana was beginning to persuade Bjelica of his talent. The coach praised the striker after he scored in his last game for Union Berlin.
“We know he has talent and quality, but he still needs to put in a lot of work,” he stated. He has the potential to be a very good player if he realizes that.”

There have been rumors that Fofana might now transfer to Sevilla. On the other hand, Chelsea can now take on more foreign loans thanks to Fofana’s return.
FIFA permits clubs to deploy up to seven players abroad. Romelu Lukaku, Gabriel Slonina, Hakim Ziyech, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Diego Moreira, and Angelo Gabriel are currently on loan in Europe for Chelsea.
That seems to clear the way for Ian Maatsen to finish his loan move to Borussia Dortmund. Players are only excused from these regulations, according to the rules, “if the professional is a club-trained player with the former club and the loan occurs before the end of the season of the former club in which the professional turns 21.” Despite being considered club-trained, Maatsen turns 22 this season.
