Chelsea chief scout reveals Abramovich ready to bankroll ‘a very busy summer’

Chelsea will have a “very busy” summer in the transfer market, according to chief Blues scout Pioet de Visser.

The west Londoners began this season as reigning champions but endured a disastrous title defence and finished in mid-table.

A poor run of form cost Jose Mourinho his job and Antonio Conte is the man charged with reversing Chelsea’s fortunes.

The Italian tactician is set to have a sizeable task on his hands given that the club’s disappointing 10th place finish represents their worst League campaign since Roman Abramovich took charge at Stamford Bridge in 2003.

And the Russian billionaire is said to be determined not to oversee another trophyless season, which means Chelsea will not compete in the Champons League next term.

“Chelsea will have a very busy summer,” de Visser told the Sun. “Abramovich is desperate not to have another terrible season.”

Chelsea have often purchased established international players during Abrmaovich’s tenure in an effort to meet a constant demand for silverware.

But de Visser has been asked to search for talent that will be able to flourish into first teamers at Stamford Bridge in the future, rather than provide an immediate impact.

“Mr. Abramovich had to pay an absolute fortune to get players like Didier Drogba and Michael Essien.

“This is why he has asked me to look for top class young players who will be the Chelsea stars in three years time,” de Visser added.
