Chelsea Decide On Enzo Maresca As Update On Leicester City Talks Emerges

Chelsea have apparently decided on Enzo Maresca to follow Mauricio Pochettino, and it is likely that Leicester City would request permission to talk with their manager.

The situation has changed dramatically in a matter of days, with the Londoners parting ways with their previous manager despite finishing sixth in the Premier League and reaching Wembley Stadium twice this year, to the Foxes’ manager being tipped as the favourite for the job while Chelsea’s interest was confirmed.

According to The Guardian, the interested party has ‘focused its attention’ to Maresca and is expected to act soon by requesting permission from City chiefs to talk with their Italian coach.

They add that it is far from a done deal, as those at Stamford Bridge weigh the advantages and cons of signing either the 44-year-old or Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna.

Brentford’s Thomas Frank completes the quartet that appears to have made it through the first round of Chelsea analysis, as rumors of Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness, Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim, and Girona’s Michel die down.

Maresca’s profile is so high – higher even than some of Europe’s most promising managers in their respective top tiers – due to his mentorship under Pep Guardiola and, of course, the Championship winner’s medal he won during his first season at City.

This new update shows that when Maresca makes his decision, the health of the Foxes’ finances, as well as a probable points deduction from the battle to stay inside Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR), will be major factors.
