The 24-year-old midfielder’s role has changed under Enzo Maresca’s direction as Maresca has experimented with him in various spots.
Although Fernandez is usually considered a defensive midfielder (No. 6) or central midfielder (No. 8), Maresca has used him as a No. 10 on occasion, especially when Cole Palmer hasn’t been available.
Despite being somewhat different from his typical role, this one appears to fit his technical skills.
According to insiders, Fernandez has become interested in moving to Spain even though he has settled into life at Stamford Bridge.
