According to James Sharpe, Chelsea fans were all asking the same question after hearing what West Ham United fans screamed throughout Monday’s match.
West Ham lost 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on 3 February under disputed circumstances, although the away fans were vocal throughout.
With the home sections unusually quiet, United fans could be heard singing the name of unheralded midfielder Andy Irving.
According to journalist Sharpe’s piece for the Daily Mail [4 February], Chelsea fans and Sky Sports watchers were “all asking the same question” about Irving’s identity.
Irving joined West Ham from Austria Klagenfurt in September 2023, and he made his Premier League debut against Chelsea.

The 24-year-old is not a household name, but he has nine English Premier League outings, including one start, and was recently called up to Scotland’s senior side.
Hammers supporters adore a trier, and Irving is exactly that. His rags-to-riches narrative is equally noteworthy.
At Stamford Bridge, the Irons fans made a lot of noise about it. Chelsea fans may not have been aware of him before, but they will be now, as will the millions of viewers at home.
Irving, who played 77 minutes on his full Premier League debut at Stamford Bridge, will now be looking for more regular starts under Graham Potter.
In other West Ham news, a Premier League specialist has expressed concerns about a new signing at the London Stadium.
