Chelsea fans to demand new contract for John Terry during Liverpool clash

The chairman of the Chelsea Supporters Trust has revealed that the fans are planning verbal protests in their final two games of the season over John Terry’s imminent exit from the club.

Terry’s deal at Stamford Bridge – worth a reported £150,000-per-week – expires at the end of this term. He’s not expecting to be offered an extension, much to the anger of the Chelsea fans.

To make matters even worse, the club captain was sent off in the Blues’ 3-2 defeat at Sunderland on Saturday, ruling him out of these last two games.

Should the situation remain the same, Terry played his last game for Chelsea that afternoon – a hugely disappointing end to what’s been a fantastic career in west London.

However, the fans want their voices to be heard on the matter, and according to Tim Rolls, the chairman of the club’s Supporters Trust, they will be planning protests for their captain.

“There will be a lot of chants at Anfield demanding for John to stay and even more on Sunday,” Rolls told the London Evening Standard.

“There is a lot of concern about the lack of leadership in the squad already and it will be even worse next season without him.

“It has been a terrible season and there is a lot of discontent among the fans. John is one of the only players they still identify with and who knows what Chelsea is all about.”

Although Chelsea are yet to confirm whether an announcement will be made this week, the 35-year-old appears to be resigned to his fate, organising a private game behind closed doors with friends next Monday, according to the newspaper.

Terry has made 24 Premier League appearances this season, winning 59% of his duels – the second-best record in the squad. His excellent pass accuracy of 90% has also been bettered by only one teammate.

As for Chelsea, they sit ninth on 48 points following that defeat at the Stadium of Light, 17 adrift of the top four with just two games remaining.

Next up for them is a trip to Liverpool tomorrow night, before ending the campaign at home to newly-crowned champions Leicester City on Sunday afternoon. Whether Terry will appear again though remains to be seen.
