Mark Clattenburg has been tasked to take charge of the mouthwatering clash between Liverpool and Chelsea at the end of the month.
The Durham-born official is regarded as one of the Premier League’s finest, but received some criticism for some of his decisions in the game between Stoke City and Manchester United on Saturday.
Aside from that fixture, Clattenburg has been one of the few referees avoiding the unwanted spotlight recently and his reward is the big clash between Liverpool and Chelsea on January 31.
The Reds play host to the Blues at Anfield in their next league game and it is a fixture which will certainly have plenty riding on it.
Clattenburg – who officiated the game between Chelsea and Liverpool in October 2015 when the Reds won 3-1 at the Bridge – has only refereed Liverpool twice so far this season, whilst taking charge of Chelsea just once.
The news that Clattenburg will be in the middle of the game was not taken too kindly by Chelsea fans on Twitter, after he was involved in heated match between Chelsea and Spurs last season.
Clattenburg, it had to be him smh
