The 44-year-old has become the first Blues manager to lose their first four games, with Lampard having previously ruled himself out of a permanent position ahead of next season.
Chelsea have held meetings with both Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann about the club’s open managerial position, with the latter emerging as the ‘favourite’ ahead of the former Barcelona and Spain manager. Bayern Munich fired Nagelsmann last month, and coincidentally, Thomas Tuchel replaced him at the Allianz Arena.
Can Boehly and co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley be trusted to make the proper hire this summer after making impulsive decisions on Tuchel, Potter, and Lampard? When you consider the number of coaches under consideration, the early indicators are not good. According to ESPN, Chelsea is considering seven candidates, including ex-Bayern Munich manager Julian Nagelsmann, former Spain coach Luis Enrique, ex-Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti, and Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim.

It’s difficult to discern what Chelsea’s strategy is. Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique have different tactical perspectives and personalities, and Pochettino and Ancelotti play in different ways. Amorim has constructed an attractive team in Portugal, but he lacks the big-club experience that the other players on the list.
