Chelsea have reportedly handed Mauricio Pochettino an ultimatum after ruling out Jose Mourinho and three other candidates taking over at the end of the season.
The Argentine manager, who watched his team thrash West Ham 5-0 on Sunday, is said to have received a deadline to guarantee a Europa League berth for the upcoming season in order to maintain his position at Stamford Bridge.
With three games left, Chelsea are currently positioned seventh in the Premier League standings. Should Manchester United defeat Crystal Palace on Monday night and earn at least a point, Chelsea’s position could decrease even further.
With Newcastle leading by two points, Pochettino’s team must usurp the Magpies to guarantee a spot in the Europa League for the following season.
According to Football London, Chelsea’s senior management have made it plain to Pochettino that participation in the European competition is a prerequisite for his continued leadership of the team in the 2024–2025 campaign.
The Blues had already lost the Carabao Cup final to an injury-depleted Liverpool team, which meant they would miss their only opportunity to guarantee their spot in the competition the following season.

But if Pochettino is let go, rumors have it that four possible successors have already been turned down. The most well-known of them is Mourinho, who was fired from Roma earlier this season. And he was reportedly set to return for a third stint at Stamford Bridge.
Known affectionately by many Chelsea supporters as “Special One,” he enjoyed two prosperous stints with the team during which he won three FA Cups, three League Cup trophies, and three Premier League titles.
