Chelsea Handed Major Injury Blow Ahead Of Liverpool Clash

Chelsea have reportedly been left sweating over the fitness of Levi Colwill ahead of their crucial Premier League clash against Liverpool.

The 20-year-old defender needs to make it through Tuesday’s training exercise in order to go with the team to Anfield on Wednesday.

Colwill pulled out of the warm-up for Friday’s FA Cup match against Aston Villa owing to hamstring tightness, though Chelsea presumed the injury to be a minor one.

The England international is expected to return for the match against Liverpool. However, according to the Evening Standard, Mauricio Pochettino was unable to get him to training on Monday.

Ben Chilwell, who is expected to start at left back, and Benoit Badiashile, who would take Colwill’s place at center back, are other defensive alternatives.

Having only recently returned from a four-month absence, Chilwell was a substitute against Villa. And should be fit enough to start his first Premier League game since September.

Colwill should be ready to play against Wolves on Sunday if he is unfit for the game at Liverpool.

Trevoh Chalobah and Christopher Nkunku were back in training and might be fit enough to start on the bench at Anfield. But after multiple injury setbacks, their reintroduction will be handled carefully.

Robert Sanchez, the goalkeeper, returned to training on Monday for the first time since early September, when he suffered a knee injury. It is a constructive move in his continuing recuperation.

Alongside Malo Gusto, Reece James, Marc Cucurella, Romeo Lavia, Lesley Ugochukwu, and Wesley Fofana on the sidelines, he will be unavailable against Liverpool.
