Chelsea Kickstart UCL Campaign With 3-0 Win Over AC Milan

A commanding 3-0 victory over AC Milan at Stamford Bridge gave Chelsea the perfect start to their stuttering Champions League campaign.

After losing at Dinamo Zagreb in Thomas Tuchel’s penultimate game as manager and drawing at home to Red Bull Salzburg on Graham Potter’s debut, the Blues entered the game at the bottom of what appeared to be a straightforward Group E.

However, Chelsea are now just a point off table-topping Salzburg and will be feeling much better about their chances of qualifying for the knockout rounds after dismantling the Italian champions, who they face at the San Siro in the return fixture on Tuesday.

Wesley Fofana’s first goal since joining Chelsea from Leicester for £70m gave Chelsea a deserving advantage at the break.

Goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Reece James then tied up the game for Chelsea soon after the hour mark.

However, Potter stated after the game that he is “worried” about Fofana’s knee injury, which forced the defender off the field in the first half and caused him to leave the stadium on crutches.

With two games against AC Milan in just six days, the idea of reigniting their European campaign seemed daunting, but Chelsea will head to the San Siro next week full of confidence following a totally comprehensive victory against Stefano Pioli’s team.

To be fair to Milan, they did have a strong start in west London despite missing key players like attacking left-back Theo Hernandez and goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
