Asteras Tripolis drew their first two games under his leadership before defeating Kallithea on Sunday to continue their winning streak.

Nevertheless, Makelele has reportedly made the decision to resign from his third management position early.

It is stated that decisions on the game system and players made by Asteras Tripolis’ internal administration rendered his work ‘difficult’.

Makelele knew he would ‘not be able to do so thereafter’ if he was able to ‘impose his decisions’ in their victory over Kallithea, which included playing teenage star Darnell Eric Bile.

Makelele is ‘grateful’ for the opportunity to work at Asteras Tripolis currently ranked seventh in Super League Greece. He will be returning to France in the next days.

The 51-year-old, who enjoyed great success as a player, will now search for a new managerial job, reports Talk Sport.

The midfielder’s impressive performance at Stamford Bridge gave rise to the football phrase ‘the Makelele role’.

The Frenchman played for the Blues and was a member of two sides that won the Premier League championship. He also won the FA Cup and the League Cup.
