Chelsea reportedly made inquiries about the possibility of signing AC Milan goalkeeper, Mike Maignan this summer.
Maignan has emerged as a leader in Milan locker room and has been a vital component of the team in recent seasons.
According to Corriere dello Sport, negotiations for a new contract are still ongoing with Maignan’s group since the Rossoneri do not want to lose a crucial player. Milan are now more certain than ever that they can offer the goalie a long-term contract extension.
The road that has brought Milan to this point has not been easy. According to Sport Witness, Chelsea made ‘more than one enquiry’ about the player recently. Bayern Munich had also gotten in touch with the 29-year-old’s representatives in an attempt to sign him.
Even with Chelsea’s best efforts, Maignan never really wanted to leave. The France international wants to stay on as a player for Milan because he is now content there.

Chelsea’s ambitions were hurt not just by the keeper’s intentions, but also by Milan’s asking price of more than €80 million, which appears to have turned away some possible buyers.
Although the Blues don’t clearly need another goalkeeper in their roster as they already have Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen—all bets are off for next summer.
