Billy Gilmour, a Chelsea midfielder who spent a terrible season on loan at Norwich City last year, has stated that the abuse he endured during that time prohibited his family from seeing his games.
The Scotland international joined Norfolk on a one-year deal but failed to make an impact as the club was immediately relegated back to the Championship.
Billy Gilmour has talked about the challenges of dealing with such abuse during a trying season. As a temporary signing, he was used as a sort of scapegoat by angry fans in the stands.

What Did Gilmour Have To Say About The Abuse By Norwich City Fans?
It was hard,” Gilmour told The Times in looking back on his terrible spell at Carrow Road. “It was also hard for my family. When you’ve got family in the stands and they’re shouting that [abuse] it’s never nice but I would just get my head down. Of course it’s not nice.
“They stopped coming to the games, so it wasn’t nice. They weren’t coming down for games at the weekend, just staying in the house. It’s the fans’ opinion. They come to watch games and pay for their ticket and they shout but that has happened and it wasn’t nice to hear.
“It was a difficult season. I went there with the idea of trying to play my best and some games it worked and some games it didn’t, so I took some experience from that and it will help me going forward.”
What Was Billy Gilmour Up Against In Norwich City?
There was a bright hope that the Scotland international could provide a significant touch for the Canaries when he was initially signed on a season-long loan for them upon their return to the Premier League.
However, he struggled to perform due to poor form and a string of setbacks, which infuriated Norwich City fans, who notoriously yelled at him after a loss to Crystal Palace in December.
Billy Gilmour won’t go back to Norwich City though, and it’s unclear whether he will go on another loan this season. Thomas Tuchel is likely to speak with the player about this.
