The possibility of Levi Colwill leaving Stamford Bridge has been raised, with teams like Liverpool interested in signing him.
According to a report from the Independent, Chelsea has opted against selling him this summer.
This season, the 20-year-old has been among the best young defenders in the Premier League. Other clubs, including Liverpool, have taken note of his performances.
Colwill has a bright future ahead of him and is undoubtedly a great talent. Therefore, it is not surprising that Chelsea would like to have him around for a while.
Chelsea needs defensive reinforcements, particularly with aging veterans like Thiago Silva. Kalidou Koulibaly, a summer signing, has been incredibly unimpressive thus far.
So at the end of the season, the Blues will need to sign another top-notch defender.
Colwill’s return might help them avoid spending millions on transfers. The 20-year-old has demonstrated that he has the talent to compete on a regular basis in the Premier League. And he might end up being an excellent long-term addition to Chelsea’s defensive unit.
With Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile, he might create a strong defensive trio. At this point in his career, the 20-year-old defender needs to play frequently.
And if Chelsea is unable to give him those chances, he might consider leaving. Colwill will be unable to consistently sit on the sidelines at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Liverpool has to bolster their defensive capabilities. Particularly with players like Joe Gomez and Joel Matip having trouble reaching their peak performance levels this year. Both players need to be replaced, and Colwill would be a great long-term addition for the Reds.
