Chelsea Set To Sign Ligue 1 Defender

Chelsea plans to sign Rennes right-back Guela Doue before loaning him to Strasbourg.

The 21-year-old will cost the Blues €9 million in transfer fees, plus a further €2 million.

Guela, who is older than Desire, a Rennes native who is being targeted by PSG and Bayern Munich, is expected to be the most recent player to leave Chelsea on loan and join sister club Strasbourg.

Andrey Santos, a 20-year-old Brazilian midfielder, played for the French team during the second part of the previous season. Additionally, the Blues want to deploy Caleb Wiley, a left-back who recently arrived from Atlanta United, east of France.

Last season, Guela Doue made 24 league appearances for Rennes and developing into a reliable player.

In the summer friendly of 2022, Doué made his debut for the squad by playing with his brother Désiré against Caen.

After making many appearances off the bench in Ligue 1 while playing for the team coached by Bruno Génésio, Guéla’s contract was extended by the club on January 17, 2023, until 2025.

On February 1, 2023, he made his senior debut for Rennes in a 3-0 league victory against Strasbourg, reports WhoScored

He replaced his younger brother, who had just became the youngest player in history to both score and provide an assist in a Ligue 1 match, as a late substitution.
