Chelsea have reportedly submitted a £17 million bid for Villarreal goalkeeper, Filip Jorgensen as Enzo Maresca looks to add another shot-stopper in his ranks.
After a dismal defensive showing the previous season, the new Chelsea boss is determined to expand his options at the back. And Jorgensen, a longtime Blues target, is at the top of his list.
According to reports, the west London outfit contacted the player’s representatives earlier this week to see whether he would be interested in moving to London.
They have now pursued their interest by submitting a bid to Villarreal, who are currently evaluating the offer of the two-time Champions League winners.
Fabrizio Romano reports that Chelsea have made an offer of £16.8 million (€20 million) for the Denmark Under-21 international, who is thought to be one of Europe’s most promising goalkeepers.
As the two teams work out Jorgensen’s possible transfer to the Premier League, the 22-year-old could fulfill his dream. Jorgensen appears to be “keen” on the thought of coming to Stamford Bridge.
Villarreal won’t have to sell the 22-year-old, though, because he only recently inked a new deal in June that would keep him in Spain until 2029 and has a £28.9 million release clause.
With worries about Djordje Petrovic’s distribution, Maresca is eager to add a new goalkeeper. Robert Sanchez isn’t thought to be a strong enough choice to lead Chelsea for the upcoming campaign.
With Marcus Bettinelli and Lucas Bergstrom joining Sanchez and Petrovic in the starting lineup, Chelsea now have six goalkeepers on their roster.
