Chelsea Target Commits Future To Aston Villa With New Contract

John Duran has reportedly signed a new long-term contract with Aston Villa ending any speculation on his future away from the club.

Despite being strongly linked to a summer transfer to West Ham and Chelsea, according to The Independent, the 20-year-old striker ultimately stayed at Villa Park and has now committed to new terms through 2030.

He has established himself as Unai Emery’s go-to substitute, scoring game-winning goals against Everton, Leicester, and West Ham before leading the team to a historic Champions League triumph over Bayern Munich.

That was Duran’s sixth goal of the season as he continues to adapt to English football and thrive under Emery’s tutelage.

“He arrived here two years ago and he is young, his potential is huge,” the Aston Villa manager said of Duran after beating Bayern.

“Sometimes he has been impatient and I need to speak to him as a person and connect to him as a person.

“As well as a player to try to let him play, putting him on the field because his talent is there and the capacity to help us.”

In January 2023, Duran joined the Premier League club from the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer. Prior to netting eight goals across all competitions last season, he did not score in his first twelve outings forVilla.

The Colombian has been called up to the Nestor Lorenzo’s team for this month’s World Cup qualifying matches against Chile and Bolivia. He has already earned 12 caps for Colombia.
