‘Chelsea Wanted Me, But I Chose Barcelona’ – Kounde States Why He Rejected Chelsea

Jules Kounde has stated that he selected Barcelona over Chelsea because of the enormous project that they have in place at the Camp Nou, where he is one of several players who have signed this summer.

After being sought by several teams, most notably Chelsea of the Premier League, the center defender moved to Barcelona last week.

Barcelona supposedly paid Sevilla a sum of 50 million euros for the French defender, who has been an outstanding player for the Andalusian club for some time.

During his press conference, Kounde stated that Chelsea was a real possibility.

“I had the chance to go to Chelsea, but I chose Barcelona because they have an ambitious project,” he said.

“I waited for Barcelona’s agreement with Sevilla.

“I like playing in LaLiga and having played here for a while will make it easier for me, but you have to adapt to Barcelona’s style”.

Additionally, he promised to try learning Catalan over the next months, which is sure to win him supporters.

“I am very happy and proud to come to this club, I am very grateful to the president, to the fans,” he said.

“They have shown me a lot of affection. All I have to do is train hard and win, of course.

“I will also try to speak Catalan in a few months.”

Xavi’s Influence To The Arrival Of Kounde In Barcelona

It appears that Kounde’s discussion with manager Xavi Hernandez played a role in his decision to sign with Barcelona.

“I spoke with Xavi, the conversations were fluid,” the defender revealed.
