Chris Sutton slams ‘selfish’ Wenger’s Arsenal ‘dictatorship’

Chris Sutton has slammed ‘selfish’ Arsene Wenger for failing to announce when he will leave Arsenal and branded his reign at the Emirates a ‘dictatorship’.

The former Chelsea striker believes the Frenchman is taking the club backwards and that he’s surrounding himself with people who won’t challenge his authority.

Wenger claimed he would announce ‘very soon’ whether he would be staying with the Gunners beyond this season, with Arsenal languishing in sixth place in the Premier League.

His contract expires at the end of the 2016/17 campaign and he’s come under real pressure from his own supporters due to Arsenal’s poor recent performances, including their embarrassing 10-2 Champions League exit at the hands of Bayern Munich.

And Sutton believes he needs to leave as soon as possible.

‘It’s a dictatorship and he surrounds himself with yes men,’ Sutton told the BBC.

‘He’s been selfish. I’m surprised Steve Bould doesn’t get hold of him and say this is the reality.

‘He’s taking the club backwards. They have just accepted mediocrity.

‘His work in the transfer market has been a failure lately.

‘Do the right thing and if you’re not going to do the right thing then tell us.’
