Chuba Akpom joins Brighton on loan from Arsenal

Brighton and Hove Albion have confirmed the loan signing of Chuba Akpom from Arsenal.

Akpom, 21, has risen through the ranks at Arsenal with the attacker joining the club in 2002 as a youth product. However, the Englishman has struggled for regular game time at the Emirates Stadium which has resulted in him often leaving the club on loan.

Arsenal’s no.32 has had spells on loan at Brentford, Coventry City, Nottingham Forest and most recently, Hull City – where he played a role in the Tigers’ promotion to the Premier League last term.

However, after struggling for game time at Arsenal this season, Akpom has been allowed to join Brighton on a season-long loan, as confirmed by the club’s official website.

Manager Chris Hughton revealed his delight at signing Akpom, revealing Brighton had to beat off a number of suitors to capture his signature.

Hughton said, as reported by the club’s official website: “He is a young talent who gained valuable experience with Hull in the Championship last season, will give us really good pace in the forward areas and complement the other strikers at the club.

“We fought off competition from other clubs to sign Chuba, and we would like to thank Arsenal for the opportunity of working with him for the rest of the season.”

Akpom will be hoping to enjoy promotion once again come May as Brighton are top of the Championship table, two points ahead of Newcastle United.
