Highly-rated Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze has reportedly agreed a new contract with the club that will see his release clause rise to €100million. Nigeria international Chukwueze’s previous deal at the Estadio de la Ceramica also ran until the summer of 2023, but it only contained a €40million release clause, which had reportedly come to the attention of a number of clubs from across Europe.
However, the 20-year-old now looks set to sign fresh terms which will see that release clause more than double for the next two seasons, although after that it will be lowered to €80million, with the Yellow Submarine keen to reward him if he remains at the club for a considerable length of time.
It has certainly been a meteoric rise for Chukwueze over the last 12 months, as he only made his first-team debut last November before going on to feature 26 times in La Liga during the rest of the 2018-19 campaign.
Chukwueze has continued in the same vein this season, as he has featured in all but one of Villarreal’s nine league games to date, with his two goals coming in the opening-day draw with Granada and the 5-1 thrashing of Real Betis.
Villarreal are certainly enjoying a productive campaign in La Liga, as they currently sit seventh in the standings heading into the weekend and they will aim to secure a European place this season.
Chukwueze came through the youth ranks at Villarreal and has so far scored seven league goals in 34 games for the senior side.
