Manchester City have ramped up their interest in Alianza Lima’s teenage defender Kluiverth Aguilar. City’s top priority for January is expected to be the recruitment of a central defender after being hit hard by injuries in the early stages of 2019-20.
But that hasn’t prevented the Premier League champions from assessing other targets as they look to bring in the best and brightest from across the world.
Following Pep Guardiola’s arrival in the summer of 2016, there has been a big movement towards recruiting for the youth set up.
Guardiola sees it as key to ensuring the club can enjoy a successful future and he has scouts dotted across the globe to ensure they have their finger on the pulse.
With that in mind, Aguilar has been on City’s radar since the summer and it looks like a deal could be edging closer as we move towards the January transfer window.
The 16-year-old is highly-rated in his homeland of Peru where he represents 20-time Primera Division winners Alianza Lima.
He spent his earlier years in Sporting Cristal’s academy before making the move to cross-city rivals Alianza Lima in March,
The right-back earned his senior debut for Los Blanquiazules on Sunday, completing 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw at home to Alianza Universidad.
The Peru Under-17 international received praise from manager Pablo Bengoechea for his performance and City are understood to have had scouts in attendance.
Undoubtedly, Guardiola will already have been informed of Aguilar’s exploits and his maiden outing could influence talks which have been taking place.
Alianza Lima boss Bengoechea recently told Futbol Como Cancha that the two clubs “are in talks” but was keen to highlight that “there is nothing signed yet”.
Team-mate Adrian Bolboa did previously claim that “Kluiverth was bought by Manchester City” but it appears negotiations are still ongoing.
