Claudio Bravo is reportedly considering a shock proposal to sign a new one-year deal to remain at Manchester City beyond next summer. The City number two goalkeeper is out of contract next year and the Chile international was already contemplating moving on, with a return to Spain his preferred option.
However, bosses at the Etihad are believed to have sounded out how receptive the 36-year-old and his young family are to staying in Manchester for another 12 months.
The former Barcelona favourite missed the majority of last season after rupturing his Achilles tendon but has since proven his fitness and is now weighing up City’s approach.
City boss Pep Guardiola has vowed to see out his contract with the champions, which will still have another year left to run on it next summer.
And it could well be the Catalan coach would prefers to keep his former Camp Nou player on his roster, in the knowledge he won’t need to bring another shot-stopper up-to-speed on his particular demands for the role.
It’s understood Bravo currently earns around £150,000-per week with the Citizens and he would likely have to accept a sizeable pay-cut to prolong his career in England.
The South American arrived from Barcelona in 2017 for £15.6m but a series of high-profile errors saw him replaced the following season by Ederson’s £34m arrival from Benfica.
At one stage he even had the worst shots-to-saves ratio in the Premier League, but Guardiola retains plenty of respect for Bravo’s vast experience and that is thought to be another reason why City are open to keeping him around.
Bravo managed three Premier League appearances for City last season and has featured once so far this term, in the EFL Cup.
Scott Carson, on loan from Derby County, is Guardiola’s third choice shot-stopper this season.
