Former Premier League referee Mark Clattenburg says the FA bent their rules to give Anthony Taylor second Cup final on Saturday and that Chelsea were wronged by Mateo Kovacic’s second yellow card in their 2-1 loss to Arsenal at Wembley
An official is only supposed to oversee an FA Cup final once in a career but Saturday was Anthony Taylor’s second.
He believes The FA bent their rules because they didn’t want a referee to have his big moment ruined by his family not being there due to the Covid-19 restrictions.
“Taylor is highly rated by UEFA and one of the Premier League’s leading referees. His first final was in 2017 when he angered Chelsea fans by letting Arsenal’s opener stand. He also sent off Victor Moses,” he wrote in his column for Daily Mail.
“On Saturday, those same supporters were left feeling hard done by again. In the case of Mateo Kovacic’s second yellow card, Chelsea were wronged.
“But the penalty given against them was 100 per cent correct, and Taylor also decided against sending Cesar Azpilicueta off for his foul on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Azpilicueta’s contact with Aubameyang started outside the box but he still had a hand on the striker’s shoulder as he went down inside.
“Taylor only issued a yellow. He considered Aubameyang was not in complete control of the ball and Chelsea had another defender coming across.
“The second yellow shown to Kovacic was poor, however. It was a 50-50 battle for the ball and Granit Xhaka reacted theatrically.
“Unfortunately, VAR could not correct Taylor because they cannot dispute second yellows — only straight reds. Maybe this showed that VAR should have the power to study second yellows because this clearly had a game-changing impact.”
COMMENTS
It shouldn’t have been given to Taylor since that is the rule of FA ever since. They shd have learned from the previous final played in 2017.The second yellow card was not suppose to be given cos the tackle was far from it.The VAR has is doing more harm than good.
The whole world has lost interest in all the England Referees due to how corrupt they are
For me, it was a calculated attempt to push arsenal through to the Europa, and the FA vehemently told Taylor to do that dirty job, because when it is over, it is over the final result calling not to overturned. What a shame. Taylor, your children will live to remember this shameful act. It will remain in the hearts if many worldwide.
I am an Arsenal fan,to be faithful that second yellow card ought not to have been given to kovacic, but I think the referee took that decision base on the intent of kovacic and the reaction of xhaka deceived him and to crown it all VAR is not allowed to decide on yellow card, especially second yellow card.it happens sometime, but circumstances most might be painfull
It was an intentionally and very usually Taylor behaviour against Chelsea fc,he made it 14 times.let him go and ask Tom Overebo what ends his career.
The March is fess March so as var and referee Rob us only God can judge them Antony Taylor is not a referee is arsenal player nonsense referee God go u and your generation
Antony tailor is a Chelsea enemy of all the time.
Taylor you may have done yours but we leave you to your conscience. But I’m not surprised because I have always known that through match fixing in ENGLISH pool ball your clubs finds it difficult against even the lowest rated team in SPANISH laliga and others. My greatest pains in Life is for you to have colonised Nigeria and we’re harvesting the corruptions you sowed when other french colonies far away from us. Keep it up and you don’t know you are going down the drain.
