Alex Tettey was delighted Norwich managed to keep a clean sheet in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Bournemouth. The Canaries had conceded nine goals in their previous three games prior to the stalemate on the south coast, having been thrashed 5-1 at home by Aston Villa in the previous round of fixtures.
Tettey says Norwich have no plans to alter their attacking style of play but he felt it was important they put in a strong defensive display against the Cherries after conceding five in their last outing. “We needed a clean sheet, regardless of where I was playing in the team,” said Tettey. “I’m happy with the performance from everyone. We really dug in. “Yes, we have a philosophy that we go forward, we leave spaces, but when you’ve conceded that many goals, you have to stop and look at it and say yes, we are not going to stop passing the ball, we just have to make sure that defensively we are solid.”
The Canaries managed their first away point of the season at Bournemouth as well as keeping a first clean sheet as they ended a run of three straight defeats.
Norwich boss Daniel Farke is dealing with an injury crisis at present and Tettey was moved into a makeshift centre-half role at the Vitality Stadium when Ben Godfrey was forced off injury.
Farke, who has likened Norwich’s survival bid to trying to “climb Mount Everest at the moment without any tools” due to their injury issues, is hopeful Godfrey will be available for the next game against Manchester United despite his early exit at Bournemouth.
The centre-half was making his first appearance since a hernia operation and Farke feels he may have called on Godfrey too soon but is upbeat on his chances of facing United at Carrow Road next weekend.
