Clijsters to delay playing return

Kim Clijsters has delayed her WTA Tour comeback because of a knee injury but is determined to re-join the WTA Tour next year. The 36-year-old hung up her racquet for a second time in 2012 as the Belgian former world number one has increased her family to five with the birth of two sons, while also working as a pundit on various TV channels. There was no hint that the four-time Grand Slam winner was thinking of making a comeback until she announced it to the world just a few weeks ago. Clijsters looked set to resume playing in January, having been inspired by the likes of Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka playing at the top level after starting a family. She admitted that the injury will prolong her time away for the action but will not stop her getting back on court. “It’s a setback but I’m determined as ever to get back to the game I love,” she said. Clijsters has won 41 WTA titles to date and claimed the last of her Slams at the 2011 Australian Open.
