Barcelona have recently taken some very specific actions to broaden their exposure to the football potential that is developing in Africa. They have also included some of the continent’s most promising players to their youth system.
Ibrahim Diarra is one such young player who was just signed by Barcelona and is currently training under Albert Sanchez, the coach of Barcelona Atletic. The 18-year-old is regarded as one of the most promising players to come out of Africa in recent years, and his speed, technique, vision, and ability to score goals have all been very outstanding.
After turning 18 on December 12th, he signed his first contract with Barcelona. He is currently trying to get back into shape after overcoming a knee issue.
However, SPORT conducted an interview with Soumaila Coulibaly, the coach of the Mali U-17, to learn more about Diarra’s character before he makes an impression at the Blaugrana Atletic.

The Malian coach described the youngster in the following words: “Kaká [Ibrahim Diarra’s nickname comparing him to the AC Milan legend] has had the classic profile of a Barça player for a long time.”
“Left-footed, powerful, with a good one-on-one, and he moves very well between the lines, between the defense, to break the game when the opponent is compact and sitting deep. A situation that Barça often faces. Additionally, he is decisive when it comes to finishing.
“He reminds me of Rivaldo or Lamine Yamal. Left-footed players with similar characteristics. But he must forge his own path, of course. For me, he is the biggest talent in Mali right now, without a doubt.”
