Conor Coady was quick to dedicate Wolves’ performance to their fans after beating Aston Villa 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. After a mixed start to the season, Coady and his team-mates have found their feet and the win over Villa sees them head into the November international break sat eighth in the Premier League.
The Villans are the only team to have beaten Wolves since September 19, a 2-1 EFL Cup defeat at the end of last month. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side got revenge on Sunday, and, having seemingly figured out how to balance the rigours of combining domestic football with their Europa League exploits, are back in the hunt for another continental finish.
So much football undoubtedly puts pressure on the squad though and Wolves have undoubtedly had their injury problems. As a result, the break comes at a good time as the medical staff can work on ensuring the players are fit for the trip to Bournemouth on November 11.
They then head to Portugal to meet Braga knowing a victory will see them qualify from Europa League Group K.
Beating a local rival is always sweet and will ensure the fans head to work on Monday morning with a smile on their face and something to hold onto between now and that game at the Vitality Stadium.
Ruben Neves and Raul Jimenez were the scorers at Molineux, with Trezeguet getting one back late on but other than conceding, Coady and his makeshift defensive partners Romain Saiss and Leander Dendoncker excelled at the back.
Taking momentum into the international break can only be a good thing and having spoken about the game in the week, the skipper said it was a treat to have given the supporters something to cheer. “The big thing going into the break that all the Wolves fans are really happy going into it,” he is quoted as saying by the Express & Star. “Especially because it was a derby (win). “We knew the magnitude of the game and what it means to people to win. We all understand that.”
