Echo confirms Cody Gakpo acknowledges that he is “very curious” about the possibility of Arne Slot taking over as Liverpool manager in place of Jurgen Klopp.
Late in April, Liverpool and Feyenoord came to an agreement on a compensation package that will cost the Reds over £10 million in order to get the Dutchman to Anfield in time for the upcoming campaign.
Slot has made it clear time and time again that he wants to take over for the renowned Klopp in the upcoming season, but neither party has made an official statement as of yet.
Nevertheless, Gakpo acknowledged that it’s an intriguing idea in an interview with Viaplay following Sunday’s 4-2 victory over Tottenham, in which the Netherlands international scored his 15th goal of the year and assisted Mohamed Salah.
Gakpo replied, “To be honest, I have never worked with him.” “I am aware that he is an excellent coach, as evidenced by his work at Feyenoord and AZ Alkmaar.
Naturally, we had a few games against [his Feyenoord], and they were frequently tough ones. It intrigues me tremendously, and I believe we are all eager to see it through.
“At this time, we are concentrating on winning the last two games, for ourselves, the team, and the coach. After that, we’ll take a closer look at the new coach.”

Following their KNVB Beker (Dutch Cup) victory over NEC Nijmegen on April 21, Liverpool intensified talks with the Eredivisie team. Initially, a bid of approximately £7.7 million was rejected before an agreement to meet with Slot was reached.
Arne Slot Set To Leave Current Club To Liverpool
Speaking following Sunday’s crushing of PEC Zwolle 5-0, Slot stated: “I don’t worry at all about whether it will happen; the only concern is when it will be announced.
“I believe we can all agree that it appeared to be that [a farewell].” They probably expect me to go because of all the rumors in the media. Indeed, that’s something we could discuss.”
“If the official confirmation is there and I’m 100% sure that I will go there, I don’t think I’ll only watch that game, I will watch a lot of games from them.”
“I believe it’s customary to get in touch with the previous coach if you move to a new team, and in this case, that would be Liverpool. This is also what I did at Feyenoord.
It’s more than typical that you get in touch with someone who has worked at a club for a few years, or in his case, even nine years, given all of his experience.
“Aside from that, I’m well familiar with Pepijn Lijnders, his assistant. However, it would be odd if I didn’t give him a call when the season is over if there is an official confirmation.
