Former Chelsea star, Joe Cole has reportedly told the Blues to sign more experienced players and urged them to sign Real Madrid midfield pair, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.
Since Todd Boehly took over the club in May 2022, the Blues have instituted a new transfer policy, with the American spending over £1 billion to bolster their squad and bring in younger players. Actually, only two players over the age of 26 have been signed by Chelsea in the last two years, Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly.
This has significantly lowered the average age of the team. Among those signed last summer who were 21 or younger were Moises Caicedo, Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia, and Lesley Ugochukwu. But so far, that tactic hasn’t proven effective.
In spite of making it to both the FA Cup semifinal and the Carabao Cup final, the Blues are currently 17 points behind Aston Villa in fourth place in the Premier League, sitting pretty in 11th place.
The west London team have had a challenging season. And former midfielder Cole has urged manager Mauricio Pochettino to add more experience. He specifically brought up the names of legendary Real Madrid players Modric and Kroos.
“I’d be looking to maybe bring in some experienced players to set the tone,” Cole told talkSPORT as reported by The Mirror.
“Does Luka Modric want to come and play in the Premier League for one more year? He’s still doing bits at Real Madrid.

“How much has he helped [Eduardo] Camavinga, [Aurelien] Tchouameni, [Federico] Valverde? He would have had such an influence on them as players.
“Toni Kroos is 34 but does he want to test himself at his age, coming over here and helping out this young squad.”
