The Blues had a promising start to the season under Enzo Maresca and were even tipped to challenge for the Premier League title.

But they now only have two wins in their previous nine league games and are outside of the top four.

Maresca denied the notion that Chelsea may compete for the league title this season, and he also stated that he is under no pressure to finish in the top four.

“I did not specify that our goal was to finish in the top four.

The club never told me the goal was to finish in the top four,” the Italian remarked ahead of Chelsea’s 3-0 loss to Brighton on Friday, which dropped his team to sixth place in the rankings.

However, Deeney believes that failure to finish in the top four will have an impact on the team’s ability to keep its finest asset, Cole Palmer.

Meanwhile, according to football london, former Chelsea striker Loic Remy questioned Palmer’s long-term future at the club, stating:

“Chelsea players may be concerned that Cole Palmer will want to leave the club if they do not compete for trophies because that is the nature of football.”
