Enzo Maresca had to tell Cole Palmer to go home on occasion because the Chelsea player is addicted to training.
Palmer is firmly entrenched as Chelsea’s standout player following his £42.5 million move from Manchester City in September 2023. He has already scored 32 goals and provided 20 assists in 59 matches across all competitions and is an important player for Maresca.
Palmer, a 21-year-old Chelsea player, has an effortless playing style that involves drifting into space in front of opponents’ defenses before springing into action. However, his play is the result of extensive practice.

Prior to Chelsea’s league match against Aston Villa this weekend, Palmer spoke with Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola at the club’s Cobham training ground to film a ‘Masterclass’ for Premier League YouTube.
Palmer, who is not part of Chelsea’s Europa Conference League squad, has been compared to Zola. When asked if he stays behind after every session, he replied: “Yeah, if Maresca lets me! It’s too much sometimes. [I would stay all day] if I could.”
Palmer said: “I think it was important because it was just fun. My friends were there, my dad was there and we just tried different skills and different things and I was just enjoying it.
