In his first full season of professional activity, the 22-year-old scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists for a struggling Chelsea team, earning him the titles of Premier League and PFA Young Player of the Season.
With seven goals and five assists to open the current season under new manager Enzo Maresca, Chelsea’s best player has already demonstrated that it was no accident. By the conclusion of the season, Chelsea appears to be a serious contender for a top-four finish.
Palmer disclosed that he had not originally intended to make the move that has sparked his career.
“I wasn’t even gonna go to Chelsea,” Palmer said. “I got persuaded.
“I just knew I wasn’t going to play as much as I wanted to. Even when I was going to England camps with younger age groups, you had players there who were playing in the league every week.
And you’re looking around thinking, I can play in the league.”
Palmer made his Chelsea debut against Nottingham Forest. Since then, he has solidified his position as the team’s most valuable player and his performances have caused his Transfermarkt value to soar to €90 million.
However, FourFourTwo believes that leaving Stamford Bridge right now seems like a very long way off.
