Antonio Conte hinted that he may not be Inter Milan manager next season following their 3-2 defeat to Sevilla in Friday’s Europa League final.
Romelu Lukaku’s late own goal consigned Conte’s side to defeat in Cologne, after the Belgian had given the Serie A side the lead from the penalty spot early on.
The Italian boss confirmed that he and his squad will take a couple of days off, ahead of a meeting amongst ‘cool heads’ afterwards to decide his future.
Conte told the media after the final: ‘It’s only right that we analyse the entire season, look at everything in a very calm way, and try to plan the future of Inter, whether it’s with or without me.
‘It has been difficult and we’ll figure things out. It has been wonderful for me to be the coach of Inter, I thank the owners who allowed me to go through this great experience.
‘If I can say one thing: it was worth it and I will always thank those who gave me the opportunity to have this experience.’
Inter Milan also finished as runners-up in Serie A, finishing a point behind Juventus who sacked Maurizio Sarri after their Scudetto win and Champions League exit this month.
Conte’s side also fell at the semi-final stage in the Coppa Italia, meaning the Italian manager was left empty-handed in his debut season at the San Siro.
The Inter boss admitted that his family will also play a part in his future at the club and the meeting with the club’s chiefs about where they go from here.
Conte continued: ‘If some situations end up affecting my family, that is no longer enough for me. Everything has its limits, I have to see where my limits are.
‘We’ll clarify the situation, without rancour, because I will always be grateful for having the chance to spent a great year at Inter, but on the other it was also very tough.’
Conte has enjoyed a love-hate relationship with the Inter Milan hierarchy since he was appointed manager just over 12 months ago.
The Italian raged to the media about the board and how they prepared Inter for the title race after they surrendered the Scudetto to Juventus in July.
The ex-Chelsea and Juventus boss confirmed he will not resign from his role but that could not be enough to keep him in the role.
