Coach Antonio Conte launched a scathing attack on his players after Inter Milan side squandered a 2-0 lead to lose to Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday night. The Nerazzurri were cruising at Signal Iduna Park, with Lautaro Martinez and Matias Vecino both getting on the scoresheet for the visitors to give them the advantage.
However, Inter crumbled in the second half and a goal from Julian Brandt along with a brace from Achraf Hakimi capped off a superb comeback from the Bundesliga outfit.
Former Chelsea boss Conte was furious with his players after the full-time whistle and felt his side showed a real lack of experience to squander such a position in a key Champions League group game “Apart from Diego Godin, these players haven’t won anything and lack experience,” he told Sport Mediaset. “We have too limited a squad to face both Serie A and Champions League football this season. I mean limited in terms of numbers and quality. “Some players have to be on the field constantly and in the long run, you do pay for that. I am furious because this cancels out the good work.”
Inter now find themselves with a real uphill battle to reach the Champions League group stage as they sit down in third place in the table with three points between themselves and second-place Dortmund.
La Liga giants Barcelona lead the way and are four points clear of Inter, despite being held to a goalless draw against Slavia Prague on Tuesday.
