Antonio Conte saluted his Inter Milan players for pushing through the pain barrier to pick up another crucial three points away at Brescia. Inter did not put in their best performance of the season on Tuesday night, but it was the three points that mattered most following a tough run of fixtures that have left Conte’s side feeling fatigued.
Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku got the goals to seal a 2-1 win that moves Inter back to the top of the Serie A standings.
They may not be there for long, though, as Juventus will go back top with a victory over Genoa on Wednesday night, but Conte was very proud of his players.
The Nerazzurri have now played four games in the space of nine days, and the Inter boss praised his players for getting the three points at a difficult venue as the signs of fatigue really kicked in during the second half, but they dug deep to get the points. “Today’s victory is very important and I challenge anyone to play here and bring home three points,” Conte told reporters after the game. “I asked my players to show their maturity and we did that. Talking about our performance is reductive and inopportune, as looking at the glass half full doesn’t sit well with me. “I don’t feel like adding much else, so we’ll look to recover and prepare for Bologna and Borussia Dortmund.”
Inter have work to do to qualify for the next stage of the Champions League and the trip to Dortmund will be pivotal.
