Chelsea boss Antonio Conte was full of praise for Tiemoue Bakayoko after the midfielder made his full debut in the side’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham.
The Frenchman, who joined the Premier League champions for £40million for Monaco, has been working his way back to full fitness after undergoing minor knee surgery earlier this summer.
However, with the Blues struggling for number ahead of the London derby at Wembley, Antonio Conte was forced into starting Bakayoko and the 23-year-old did not disappoint versus Spurs.
Conte highlighted Marcos Alonso’s display after the defender’s double and also heaped praise on Bakayoko for returning to the fold ahead of schedule.
‘It was the first game for Bakayoko. Don’t forget that at some point I was a player and sometimes the motivation makes you get over your physical condition,’ the Italian said after the win.
‘[Playing in] a great stadium, [against] a great opponent [with] a great atmosphere, I think it’s good.
‘He worked a lot in these last ten days, for sure I saw a lot of improvement – otherwise it was very difficult for me to start him.
‘He had an amazing performance but for sure he can improve. He needs to adapt to our style of football.’
