Conte: I won’t discourage my Chelsea team for playing with aggression

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte will not discouraged his team from being aggressive and playing with a high intensity.

The Blues have played three pre-season fixtures so far and got their second win on board in undoubtedly their toughest test in the early hours of Thursday.

Conte’s side faced Premier League rivals Liverpool at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena and won the game thanks to a Gary Cahill first-half header.

However, that was just half of the story after a hefty six yellow cards were dished out – five of which were for Liverpool – whilst Cesc Fabregas was sent off for Chelsea after a horror tackle on Ragnar Klavan.

Whilst Fabregas has since come under intense criticism – the 29-year-old did apologise to the Liverpool players after the game – Conte believes there needs to be that sort of fight instilled within his players.

“I like if my team plays aggressively and with high intensity,” Conte said, as reported by the London Evening Standard. “I like to see that. We train to prepare for that because I want my team to have an identity.

“I want that if you see Chelsea you recognise ‘oh Chelsea are playing’. That is important for me, it is important for the club and the owner – everyone.

“This is my football and everywhere I have been I have been I have worked at that. I always gave an identity to my teams.

“I am searching to transfer this to my players. I am pleased because I see a great attitude.

“I want to continue in this way because this is the only way to come back very soon for the title, not to speak, but with actions. Now is not the moment to talk.”
