Cook ‘vital’ to Essex success – McGrath

Essex head coach Anthony McGrath has highlighted the importance of Sam Cook to their success after penning a new deal. The 22-year-old made his Essex debut in 2016 but had to wait until 2017 to force his way into the set up on a regular basis. He was part of their 2017 County Championship winning side and played a key role as they repeated that feat in 2019. The right-arm seamer has claimed 87 wickets in 29 matches since earning his first appearance for the county and McGrath feels he has plenty to offer. McGrath told the club’s official website: “Sam has become extremely reliable and consistent and is a vital part of our side. “He is a fantastic bowler who played a big role in our success last year.”
