Thibaut Courtois has hailed the “big gap” Chelsea have over their rivals ahead of crucial games against Arsenal and Liverpool.
Antonio Conte’s men have lost just three game this season and boast an eight-point lead at the top of the table following Sunday’s victory over Hull City.
Diego Costa returned to the side – and scored – as the Blues capitalised on a number of slip ups from other sides aiming to win the title.
Chelsea have proven their recent defeat to Tottenham was little more than a blip and Courtois is hopeful their enviable position will become even better over the next couple of weeks.
“We wanted to win more games after the Tottenham result, and before we play Liverpool and Arsenal,” he told Chelsea’s official website.
“Now we have a big gap, hopefully we can win against them and put ourselves further away.”
Chelsea host Brentford in the FA Cup this weekend and will then travel to Anfield before hosting Arsene Wenger’s side at Stamford Bridge.
If Chelsea manage to beat both of their directs rivals they could effectively pull away from both Jurgen Klopp’s men and the Gunners.
Meanwhile, Chelsea had to be patient to find a way past a resilient Hull side and Courtois has praised his teammates for digging in to notch up another three points.
“Manchester United found it tough against them, they won against Bournemouth and they came with a plan so it wasn’t easy.
“I don’t think we played our best game but we are pleased to get the three points,” added the goalkeeper.
