Courtois says he’s not planning for Madrid transfer and remains focused on Chelsea

Thibaut Courtois insists he has no plans to quit Chelsea for Real Madrid in the summer.

Striker Diego Costa claimed earlier today that the Belgium international might consider a return to Madrid, where he spent three years on loan between 2011-14.

Chelsea want to hand their first choice keeper an extension to his contract which has just over two years remaining, although that there have been no talks for 12 months, according to the London Evening Standard.

Courtois is one of four keepers, including David de Gea and Hugh Lloris, that are on Real Madrid’s wish-list to replace Keylor Navas in the summer.

But when asked about the speculation, Courtois insisted: “No [I’m not planning on a transfer]. I am enjoying the success here and I am focused.”

The 24-year-old has been in superb form for Chelsea this season and made a key save from Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford last night to help his side progress to the FA Cup semi-finals.

Courtois was barely called upon, but came to the fire shortly after N’Golo Kante had given Chelsea the lead.

Rashford dribbled past Gary Cahill and unleashed a shot from close range, only for Courtois to deny him.

He told Standard Sport: “I feel good and am having a very good season. This was a game where I didn’t have a save to make until that moment, I was just passing it from the back. You have to be ready and I was for that moment. It was a crucial save.

“When you are attacking so much you always have to take care because he is fast. You hope your team-mates won’t make a mistake.

“When Marcus was one-on-one with Gary Cahill I had to think of the possibility he would go past him and shoot, so I was ready.

“I just had to see if he would go on his left or right, he went on his left and I was in a good position. I was good on my feet and made a nice save.”
