Philippe Coutinho has offered his sincerest goodbyes to Liverpool supporters after confirming his ‘dream’ £145million move to Barcelona.
The Brazilian enjoyed five years on Merseyside, during which he grew from a precocious talent to one of the most exciting players in world football.
It is no secret that Barcelona’s new record signing longed for a move to the Nou Camp – he did, after all, hand in a transfer request last summer as Liverpool rebuffed three giant bids.
But, despite the best efforts of the Anfield club — and Jurgen Klopp — the lure of the Catalans proved too much.
‘I leave Liverpool because Barcelona is a dream for me,’ Coutinho wrote on Instagram.
‘Liverpool was a dream that I was fortunate enough to realise and I have given five years of my life to it.
‘A career on the pitch only lasts for so long and to play for Barcelona as well as Liverpool is something I want to experience and enjoy while I am blessed enough to be able to do so.’
Coutinho scored 54 goals in 201 appearances for the Reds, a record which was enough to prick up the ears of Barcelona chiefs.
