Philippe Coutinho is a big doubt for Liverpool this weekend after having a scan at a private hospital on Merseyside following his return from international duty.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Coutinho returned to Liverpool on Wednesday night off the back of two appearances for Brazil, but didn’t train with his teammates on Thursday morning, despite arriving at Melwood. Instead the 24-year-old was sent to Spire Hospital for an assessment, with the club now anxiously awaiting the results.
Jurgen Klopp has already lost Adam Lallana to injury this week, after the attacking midfielder picked up a groin problem during England’s 2-2 draw with Spain, so will be hoping for better news regarding Coutinho, as the Reds look to continue their stunning start to the season.
The Brazilian international’s reputation was enhanced further over this latest international break, scoring a stunner in Selecao’s impressive 3-0 win over Argentina last week and featuring in their 2-0 victory against Peru on Tuesday evening.
It was a continuation of his fine club form, as Coutinho has starred for Liverpool in the Premier League this season, spearheading their relentless attacking options in the final third under Klopp.
He’s scored five goals and created 30 chances in 11 top flight appearances this term, with a shot accuracy of 57%, as the Reds sit top on 26 points, one clear of Chelsea in second and two ahead of Manchester City in third.
Next up for them is an away clash at Southampton this weekend, before taking on Sunderland at Anfield.
