The story of Philippe Coutinho keeps changing as the football world revolves around him. The Brazilian maestro, who once mesmerized Anfield with his genius, looks back on his January 2018 move to Barcelona from Liverpool, which didn’t work out too well for him or the Spanish team.
Even though Coutinho is now playing for Al-Duhail in Qatar, he is unwavering in his decision to leave Liverpool despite the difficulties he has encountered in Spain.
To make his mark in the history of the Catalan giants, Coutinho moved from Liverpool to Barcelona in a deal worth an incredible $180 million (£142 million/€166 million).
But the dream was not at all what the reality was. During his four and a half years at Camp Nou, he made just 106 appearances and scored 25 goals.
After that, he was loaned out to Aston Villa and Bayern Munich. It was during Steven Gerrard’s managerial tenure at Villa that he signed a permanent contract.
Even though Coutinho didn’t live up to the high standards set for him at Barcelona, he doesn’t regret his choice.
What Did Coutinho Say About His Forced Exit From Liverpool?
“No. At no time [does he have any regret],” he bluntly told Spanish outlet Sport as echoed by Liverpool.com.
“Things did not turn out as I imagined, as people expected, as I expected. Because I am the first to demand of myself on the field, I tell myself that I have to give more on the field.
“I tried everything, I have always been very professional and I don’t regret anything. It was always my dream to play for Barça and I went there.

“I enjoyed it, I was able to meet many people, win titles and it will always be in the story of my life.
“I would not change anything,” he added. “Going back is impossible, but as I said I don’t regret anything. I always gave my best in training as I do here and as I did last year and as I will do next year. If things fit well, great and if not, patience.”
