Days after Lionel Messi officially joined Inter Miami, Cristiano Ronaldo has declared the Saudi Pro League is superior to the Major League Soccer.
Following his departure at the beginning of the year, the Al-Nassr striker has ignited a wave of European talent swarming to the Middle East for mega-money contracts this summer.
Messi could have been one of them, but after leaving PSG, he opted to go to the United States. And now, Ronaldo feels as though he has joined a lower league.
After a preseason friendly on Monday against Spanish side Celta Vigo, he was open with the media, saying: “The Saudi league is much better than the United States.”
Ronaldo also took credit for the influx of Saudi signings, adding: “My decision to go to Saudi was 100% crucial for clubs to bring in new top players. It’s a fact. It was going to take a year, but it was six months.
“I knew this was going to happen because in the Italian league, when I went there, it was also dead and then rejuvenated.
“Where Cristiano goes, it generates greater interest and I knew it was going to be like that.”

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner also thinks it’s only the beginning of the revolution. “In one year, more and more top players will come to Saudi,” he declared.
“In a year the Saudi league will overtake the Turkish league and Dutch league. Players who arrived aren’t like what the president of the European Union said.
“Jota and Ruben Neves are young players.”
