Former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch has joked about the time he met the Brazilian Ronaldo on holiday.
Crouch has spent his entire career in English football which is a country that Ronaldo – who won the 2002 World Cup – never played in competitively.
The Brazilian played in the Netherlands, Italy and Spain as well as Brazil and was an idol for many of the modern-day football stars around the world.
Not many get to meet their heroes, but Crouch was lucky enough to come face- to-face with him on holiday.
However, the legendary forward didn’t have a clue who the former England star was.
Crouch said to the Telegraph: “I met [Ronaldo] once. I was in Ibiza on holiday and quite by chance ran into him in a club.
“He’s the only man I’d go up to and ask for a picture. And I did. As we were taking the picture, I remember thinking, ‘I wonder if he knows who I am.’
“And you know what? He didn’t have a clue!’”
Ronaldo, now aged 40, retired at Corinthians five years ago after scoring 18 goals in 30 appearances for the Brazilian club.
He started his professional career all the way back in 1993 when he scored 12 goals in 14 league games for Cruzeiro before immediately signing for PSV, for whom he scored 42 goals in 46 league matches over a two-season spell.
Then came his best ever scoring season as, in his only campaign at Barcelona, he scored 47 goals in 49 appearances in all competitions.
