Dalot Explains His Shock Following His Move To Man United From Porto

Diogo Dalot has revealed he was surprised by the standards and expectations at Manchester United after he signed for the club.

In the summer of 2018, Jose Mourinho signed Dalot from Porto for an estimated £19 million. The defender signed a five-year contract, but his first few seasons at the club saw him play few games.

Dalot played the 2020–21 season on loan for AC Milan. Upon his return, he made an impression on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, which led to a more significant role for him in the starting lineup.

With Erik ten Hag in charge, the 24-year-old has made steady progress. And in May, he got a contract extension that could keep him at Old Trafford until 2028.

Dalot had a fantastic first half of the previous season. Looking to replicate that success, he’s starting games consistently and making a total of 28 appearances this term.

The versatile full-back recently spoke to TNT Sports and he reflected on his time at Old Trafford.

“It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions, developing as a man and you know when you’re a kid at such a young age and you sign for a big club like this, sometimes you get a shock,” Dalot said as echoed by Manchester Evening News.

“The expectations are always high, so you have to learn how to match that standard and when you’re young it’s difficult sometimes to see that you have to be there every single day.

“You have to fight every day to be at the highest level possible, so I’ve been saying that this is a progressive career so far in my short career, but in the club, it’s been very productive.”
