Dani Alves urges Coutinho to move away from Liverpool

Barcelona right-back Dani Alves has called on fellow Brazilian Philippe Coutinho to leave Liverpool, saying he’s good enough for the Catalan giants.

Alves, who is set to join Juventus, has said that whilst Liverpool have a strong past, Coutinho should consider a move away to play for one of the top teams who compete in the Champions League.

A series of outstanding performances for the Merseyside club over the last few seasons have created rumours of a move away for the playmaker, with Barcelona often linked, although no bid has been confirmed by either side.

However, Alves believes that Coutinho should consider playing for a top Champions League team.

“Football is about living the moment. Liverpool have history but you should consider playing for top Champions League sides,” said the 33-year-old, as reported by the Express via Yahoo Esportes.

Although Alves didn’t say his compatriot should sign for Barcelona, he did admit that “he has the quality” to play for them.

Coutinho has recently admitted that he misses winning trophies.

“I miss winning cups. Copa América is another opportunity for me, because every player dreams of winning cups,” said the 23-year-old who scored eight goals and registered five assists in the Premier League last season.

Alves lifted 23 trophies over eight years at Barcelona whilst Coutinho is yet to win one at Liverpool, and he most recently played in the Europa League final as the Reds were beaten by Sevilla.

Were he to leave Anfield this summer, the midfielder, who created 49 goalscoring chances, would be a big loss to Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Both Alves and Coutinho are part of Brazil’s 2016 Copa América squad who play their first game against Ecuador on June 5th.
